Our mission at XLR8 is to help as many horses as possible, through the most efficient and affordable means available to riders. That's why we are constantly exploring innovative solutions that enhance recovery and boost performance for our equine companions. Among the myriad of technologies available today, red light therapy stands out as a non-invasive, pain-free option that offers substantial benefits for horse health and performance. XLR8 Redline is at the forefront of this revolution, offering wearable red light and near-infrared therapy products specifically designed for horses.

How does red light therapy help horses?

Research shows that wavelengths of light from 630-1000 nanometers promote optimal biotic response, helping horses recover faster from common ailments such as:

  • Healing minor wounds
  • Recovery after exercise
  • Muscle injuries
  • Tendon and ligament injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Reduced stress

For a deep dive on the science behind red light therapy, read our full article here. For now, here's a quick synopsis of how red light technology can make a significant difference in equine care:

1. Accelerated Healing: Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate deep into tissue, stimulating cellular repair and increasing blood circulation. For horses, this means faster recovery from injuries, reduced healing times for wounds, and a quicker return to training or competition. XLR8 Redline's wearable devices are designed to apply red light and near-infrared diodes to specific areas of the horse's body, ensuring targeted and effective treatment.

2. Enhanced Muscle Performance: Muscle fatigue and strain are common issues in equine athletes. Red light therapy can aid in reducing inflammation and muscle soreness, thereby enhancing the horse's performance. By improving blood flow and reducing oxidative stress, XLR8 Redline's products help in preparing muscles for exertion and aiding in recovery post-exercise, allowing horses to perform at their peak.

3. Pain Relief and Reduced Inflammation: Chronic pain and inflammation can severely affect a horse's quality of life and performance. Red light therapy offers a drug-free alternative to manage pain and reduce inflammation. By increasing circulation and encouraging cellular repair, XLR8 Redline's wearable red light therapy can alleviate discomfort and promote better joint and muscle health.

4. Stress Reduction: Stress has a profound impact on the overall well-being of horses. The calming effect of red light therapy can help in reducing stress and anxiety, making it easier for horses to relax and recover after strenuous activities. This aspect of red light therapy is particularly beneficial in maintaining the mental health of equine athletes.

5. Improved Coat Health: Beyond its deeper biological benefits, red light therapy can also enhance the appearance and health of a horse's coat. The stimulation of hair follicles and improved blood flow can lead to a shinier, healthier-looking coat, reflecting the overall well-being of the horse.

How do Redline Products Work?

Our XLR8 Redline wearable red light therapy products are designed with the modern equestrian in mind, combining ease of use with the latest technology to provide a complete approach to equine care. Utilizing three chips per diode, Redline offers both 660nm and 880 nm for effective targeting of problem areas. Read an in-depth look at choosing wavelengths here. For a brief overview:

660 nm:
Visible red light at wavelengths from 630 – 700 nm penetrates tissue at a depth of up to 10mm. This wavelength is very beneficial in remediating issues close to the surface such as wounds, scars, lacerations, and acupuncture points, and is particularly useful for infection.

850 nm (near infrared):
Infrared light (800-1000nm) penetrates to a depth of over 50mm, which makes it more useful for deeper muscle structures, tendons, ligaments, joints, organs, and bones. Humans can't see in infrared, so LEDs may appear to be turned off when they are actually working as intended. Our power button illuminates to indicate when this setting is active.

Redline products include a timer that will automatically shut off the device after 15 minutes, ensuring consistent and optimal treatment times. We feature a single button selection method to achieve your desired mode (red light, near infrared, and pulse), making our devices the most user-friendly option available.

How often should red light therapy be used?

Redline products should be used 1-2 times daily, for 15 minutes each session. Ensure the horse's leg is clean and dry before applying. When not in use, they can be gently rolled and stored in a cool, dry place to protect LEDs and electronics.

How do I clean Redline products?

Because Redline products contain sensitive electronics, they should not be submerged in water. We recommend a damp lint-free cloth or toothbrush to gently clean the fabric only. Diodes can be gently wiped with a cloth, do not scrub LEDs. Make sure device is unplugged and turned off before cleaning, and ensure it air dries completely before rolling to store. Do not fold, crease, or place heavy objects on top.
